Common causes

  • A photo straight from a camera, or a logo exported as a print-resolution PNG.
  • A scanned PDF you meant to merge; scans of many pages grow quickly.
  • An office document above 20 MB, usually because of large pictures in it.

How to fix it

  • Scale the image to the size the document shows it at. A logo 400 px wide is enough for print at the sizes templates use it.
  • Compress: WebP or a JPEG at quality 80 is usually a fraction of the PNG.
  • For a large PDF you only want to merge, split it and merge the parts, or keep it outside the library and render it in pieces.
  • For an office document, compress its pictures before converting (in Word: File › Compress Pictures).

Retry?

No. The same file gives the same answer. Make the file smaller, then send the request again with a new Idempotency-Key or without one: a 4xx answer is stored under its key for 24 hours, so the old key returns this problem again. See retrying.
